Thoughts on the blog

April 12, 2011

I started this blog in December of 2008, initially to familiarize myself with blogging as we were exploring the use of blogs at work. At that time I was maintaining my two other sites; www.brightridge.com for my photography and www.sevenknots.com for boating/cruising things -- today neither of those sites are being updated with any frequency. I discovered that the blog was an easy way to post things.  I host my images on my brightridge site and link to them from Rhody360.  The focus of the blog is primarily my photography but I show other things (pictures, videos animations) that I make and many things find lying around in the dark corners of the internet.

Most of the images are personal images made for my own enjoyment, things I like. I also include from time to time projects that I have been working on in a more professional capacity, but I try to keep those at a minimum.

And an enormous thanks to everyone who visits each day and writes and asks questions or leaves a comment.  That makes it all feel worthwhile.  With out you folks who read the blog it would all be pretty senseless. You keep me motivated to keep posting and continue pointing the camera in all directions.  I know that there are times when it seems that I go missing for a while... sorry about that but I lapse from time to time. The blog is a labor of love as I do have a real life out side of the blog and it gets pretty hectic most days.  I try to spend a few hours each day experimenting with things and when I get a good shot or make something I feel I would like to share, I post it here on Rhody360. Not everyday is successful as not every experiment is successful. It is sometimes a struggle to go to my studio and update things, for that I am sorry if I diminish your expectations.

On another topic, I do moderate the comments as I had been getting some spam comments that lead off to less appropriate and dark, suspicious places. I am not a fan of censorship but feel it necessary to keep the nastiness off the site. With all that said I hope you stick around, subscribe or just comeback from time to time to see what is new. Thanks for stopping by and feel free to drop a line from time to time, be curious, ask questions or just tell me what sucks and what is good. I will try my best to keep the site fresh.

A bit about me

I’m a tolerable guy… I’m politically frustrated, I paint and sketch, do photography, work with wood, write a bit (although poorly) about art, life, bicycles, and digital stuff. I'm a graphic designer professionally, whatever that means. For a guy that grew up in central Illinois in the 50’s and 60's, I think I turned out just fine, so far. I don’t have much use for normal male activities like hunting and sports and hard drinking although I can scratch and ogle with the best of ‘em. I know which fork to use most of the time, I don’t say fuck unless it’s needed and for the most part I can get along in polite society. I’ve seen more of the world than most people have and I think I sometimes I may say things about it that might be interesting.
