Laverne's Grave

This is the cemetery in Norwich, Ontario where Carol's Canadian family rests. This past summer we attended cousin Laverne's funeral and laid him to rest at the Caley family plot. Laverne was one of those people who you will never forget. He never had a bad word for anyone and was always full of good humor. Laverne will be missed by everyone. So visit his grave here and say a prayer if you are so inclined.

Big Diesel Engine

Click image to view a full screen 360º panorama
I shot this HDR image of a diesel engine in an electrical generating facility in the boston area. This was a very interesting place to shoot but for an owner of a couple of small diesels (in my boat) seeing something this big was a treat. WARNING! This is a High Resolution image and may take a while to load.

Daniel Chester French's Studio & Home

Over the weekend we visited the home and studio of Daniel Chester French, the sculptor who created the statue of Abraham Lincoln in the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. He also made the Minuteman Statue in Concord, MA. His home and studio were just a great place to visit, and fully preserved and restored. This is certainly a must see if you are in the Stockbridge area. Here is a view of his house.

Sandy Beach, Lee, MA

After breakfast on Sunday morning, Carol and I took a hike and found this little beach on Laurel Lake in Lee, Massachusetts. It is called Sandy Beach and the sign said, it "Opens on the last day of school" so we guessed that it must have closed on the last day of summer or the first day of the new school year. It was so pretty in the fog, and quiet and still. Nice. Hope you enjoy beach. Oh, and along the way we passed this cornfield.

View of a New England church

It seems as though when every you walk through the woods and you break out into a clearing a little white church pops up. Our walk on the Cobble Trail proved no different. So here is my shot of the little white church in Tyringham, MA. The clearing at the end of the walk is a large and expansive field that you hike for about a half mile, just beautiful.

Another one from the Cobble Trail

As we hiked we were in and out of the woods and as we got here the sun was just beginning to brighten up things. The views up here on the Cobble were just spectacular. Hope you enjoy this view. At the beginning of the walk we passed this barn.

On the Cobble Trail

Carol and I got away this weekend to western Massachusetts. This morning we hiked the Cobble Loop Trail in Tyringham, MA which included a short stretch of the Appalachian Trail. It is an easy hike and highly recommending. The weather was beautiful after the early morning fog broke. This weekend we visited the Norman Rockwell Museum, Daniel Chester French's house as well as October Mountain where we did some hiking as well. This is a great part of the country. View the VR of this scene here.

WWP Exhibition 'Performing Arts" Now Open

The exhibition for the World Wide Panorama group is now open. I have created a direct link to the alphabetical listing of all the participants from around the world. I hope you enjoy browsing through these panoramic works. The exhibition can be found here. Another bit of news is that the new pano head (360Precision Absolute) for my tripod has arrived and from now on my panos will be shot with a Nikon D300s. I will be doing some experiments tomorrow and over the weekend.. stay tuned.

Commentary on this blog

So it has been a slow blogging summer for me... hopefully I will get back to blogging and put some things here that may be of interest. The summer just got busy and I lost sight of things. Some news of note, our cat died, just old age, and yesterday we got two little kitties, still unnamed. Gracie (the worlds cutest grand daughter) turned one year old and is very mobile. Ben and I have been building model ships and airplanes on our Friday nights together. Carol officiated at a couple of weddings this summer, we cruised to Maine as you may have seen and I continue to shoot a lot with my camera, make movies and even did some painting this summer. Sunday I built a dory to use as a decoration for the 'Christmas in October' event we attend every year with the boat -- we have historically won second place in the decorating contest and this year we are going for the gold.

Providence Performing Arts Center

This is a VR of the Providence Performing Arts Center I took yesterday evening just after sunset for the World Wide Panoramas Group, which is group of photographers that shoot on the solstices and the equinoxes and hold a quarterly exhibition online here. This exhibition entitled "Performing Arts" won't be open to the public yet (in about a week) but the link will take you to the site which has all of the panoramas since the beginning in 2004. With each equinox or solstice comes a new theme. I had thought of shooting artists painting, singers and other such performers but the light was right and the PPAC is such a Providence icon that I thought I would shoot this for the equinox this time around. Hope you enjoy.
